What is Your Natural Decision Making Style?
Do you know that you have a natural way and style of decision making? Maybe you’re like me and waiver when it comes to making decisions or you’re just less aggressive and less comfortable making decisions.Decision making is one key to job satisfaction and increasing your professionalism in the workplace. Knowledge of your Myers-Briggs Personality Type will explain to you how you instinctively prefer to make decisions. What is your personality type? If you don’t know take the Myers-Briggs Test, then return to this page and keep reading. If you don’t know your type you can’t understand your natural decision making style. Z Method of Decision Making This is a four step decision making model based upon taking in information and then deciding upon that information. It is also related to your core Myers-Briggs personality functions and how you use them- Sensing-how you take in details and see the in-the-moment realities.
- Intuition-how you see the concepts of the reality/details you take in.
- Thinking-what are the logical options of the above two steps?
- Feeling-what are the feeling, emotional, compassionate, social concerns of the above most logical options?
We call the above four steps a “Z” because that helps us to understand it, so if you can visualize a “Z” with Sensing "S" on the top left of the “Z”, Intuition "N" on the top right of the “Z”, then Thinking "T" on the bottom left of the “Z” and finally Feeling "F" on the bottom right of the “Z”…you have the image. Let me help you visualize that "Z" Image:

Depending upon your personality type, if you are strong(Dominant) in Sensing you would naturally do better at seeing the details and realities that may enter into the decision. If you are strong (Dominant)in Intuition (as I am, INFJ, a dominant intuit) you would naturally do better at understanding the possible conceptual options arising from the details of the situation. If you are strong (Dominant)in Thinking you would naturally do better at identifying the logical possibilities within the conceptual options presented. If you are strong (Dominant) in Feeling you would naturally do better at seeing how others will be socially, emotionally and compassionately, in short how they will likely feel about the logical alternatives presented. You will not be naturally strong in all four, two of the four, with one stronger than the other. Use your Dominant function as the one your are strongest in and best naturally suited to make decisions in. Now go to the nav bar on the left and link on the "Speaking" page , scroll down near the bottom and link on your Myers-Briggs type to determine your most natural decision making style. You can also scroll down and link on your type for more decision making information. Your least favorite (inferior) function is the decision making step you will not be good at at all, and will stress you constantly. Looking at your type and your type dynamics and using your natural strengths to help you decide can release more accurate decision making results, help you to be more assertive and comfortable as you reason and deicide and increase your work place professionalism.
