ENFJ Definition of Personality Equals “Vision + Harmony +Understanding”

The definition of personality for the ENFJ includes the exquisitely natural awareness for the needs and the potential of others and the visionary conceptual ability to bring that about.

You may have come here from the MBTI “words to describe personality” page and you know or suspicion that your personality type is Extraverted with Intuition, Feeling and Judging, because you have taken the Myers-Briggs personality assessment test. Or you may be here because someone you care about is this type. That being the case you can discover many qualities, traits or characteristics describing this personality type on this page.

BASICS

I’m going to present ENFJ qualities in a list format because I have found reading a paragraph when you are digging for some important, quick information, can be difficult, well it can be irritating! So let us take a look at a list of personality traits for ENFJs. This type:

  • Is warm and caring in all that they do
  • Is deeply concerned with bringing harmony to all they do
  • Is very decisive and clear about values
  • Is strongly oriented to the new, the possible, the potential in others
  • Expects, believes, and wants the world to be harmonious with clear idealistic values
  • Wants to care for others, organize their environment and get things done
  • Is openly communicative, fun-loving and transparent
  • Deeply value relationships, want to know and be known by others
  • Has exceptional people skills.
  • Possesses a natural active compassion and caring for the needs of others
  • May avoid conflict at all costs in order to maintain perceived harmony

Now do you see yourself/someone else in the above basic list of personality traits??

What we really begin to see with personality type is emerging patterns of behaving and using our brains. The ENFJ way is natural, instinctive, beautiful, created to be this way. Let us continue.

Mottos Are Fun

For the ENFJ these mottos or things to put on their battle flag might be: “Possibility Thinking!”, “Concepts Are Real” “Intuition University”, to name a few.

Let us make another list of personality traits, ENFJs:

  • Are masterful at winning the cooperation of others
  • Often make decisions and come to conclusions regarding people quickly
  • Will have difficulty (sometimes great difficulty) with those unable/unwilling to emote
  • Will have difficulty with confrontations of all sorts
  • Enjoy planning for the possibilities in most things and for most people
  • Are deeply motivated by causes that nurture, support, and feed others
  • Will work tirelessly to fulfill the humanitarian needs they identify with
  • Thinking is symbolic, metaphorical, they see meaning in all things

Now, my friend, the ENFJ not only behaves in the above manner…THEY NATURALLY EXPECT EVERYONE ELSE TO DO THE SAME!!

So, what happens when they see that many others do not behave that way?? (only 3-5% of America’s population is this type) Answer: Different levels of stress, confusion, irritation, etc.; typically nothing this type can’t handle. So, this is a NATURAL reaction on the part of this type, they are not doing anything wrong.

More Stuff The ENFJ:

  • Is typically a master at communication
  • In relationships, is friendly, emotionally expressive, outgoing
  • In relationships, they value genuineness
  • In relationships, will have difficulty taking criticism at times
  • In relationships, they are very tactful, but can be seen as manipulative
  • In relationships, have a tendency to push toward what is good for others
  • Will take on the concerns and responsibilities of others to the hurt of self
  • Must receive appreciation and recognition
  • May rush to judgment rather than cooperatively considering a mates point of view
  • Strongly irritated by criticism and logic

Under Stress The ENFJ:

  • May become extremely narrow in their perceptions
  • Will become very emotional and irritable
  • Will begin to strongly doubt themselves and seek help from anyone
  • Under extreme stress they may withdraw, feel hurt, trapped and focus on irrelevant details
  • May withdraw and strongly criticize others

If this type is you, wonderful, perhaps you now have a better understanding of yourself, and perhaps you can use that increased understanding in many positive ways.

If you see someone else as this type but not you, please pay attention to the differences between your personality and the ENFJ. Try to see that your way and this way are natural and just fine! Look for the positive differences, the strengths this type brings to your type. Celebrate that because it cannot be changed and can add wonderful diversity and truth to your life!!
