ESFJ Definition of Personality Equals “Warmth + Energy + Organization”

The definition of personality for the ESFJ includes the natural awareness for the needs of others and the creation of pragmatic ways to achieve harmony.

You may have come here from the MBTI “words to describe personality” page and you know or suspicion that your personality type is Extraverted with Sensing, Feeling and Judging, because you have taken the Myers-Briggs personality assessment test. Or you may be here because someone you care about is this type. That being the case you can discover many qualities, traits or characteristics describing this personality type on this page.

BASICS

I’m going to present ESFJ qualities in a list format because I have found reading a paragraph when you are digging for some important, quick information, can be difficult, well it can be irritating! So let us take a look at a list of personality traits for ESTJs. This type:

  • Is warm and caring in all that they do
  • Is active, realistic and organized and will act this way to help others
  • Is very decisive and clear about values
  • Is naturally very in-the-moment oriented
  • Expects, believes, and wants the world to be harmonious with clear values
  • Can have a very strong natural NEED to organize…everything
  • Is openly communicative and transparent
  • Deeply value relationships, want to know and be known by others
  • Has extremely clear, certain view of what is right and wrong
  • Possesses a natural active compassion and caring
  • Willingly and naturally support and empathize with others

Now do you see yourself/someone else in the above basic list of personality traits??

What we really begin to see with personality type is emerging patterns of behaving and using our brains. The ESFJ way is natural, instinctive, beautiful, created to be this way. Let us continue.

Mottos Are Fun

For the ESFJ these mottos or things to put on their battle flag might be: “Live To Serve!”, “If It Works Use It” “I Really Care-Let Me Help”, to name a few.

Let us make another list of personality traits, ESFJs:

  • Are masterful at winning the cooperation of others
  • Are taking a very hands-on approach to everything
  • Will have difficulty (sometimes great difficulty) with those unable/unwilling to emote
  • Will have difficulty with confrontations of all sorts
  • Constantly probe for the utility of an idea….what are the useful facts to help others with
  • Feel a strong sense of community, institution, authority, power, competence
  • Are very dependable they will finish what they begin
  • Now, my friend, the ESFJ not only behaves in the above manner…THEY NATURALLY EXPECT EVERYONE ELSE TO DO THE SAME!!

So, what happens when they see that many others do not behave that way?? (only 10-12% of America’s population is this type) Answer: Different levels of stress, confusion, irritation, etc.; typically nothing this type can’t handle. So, this is a NATURAL reaction on the part of this type, they are not doing anything wrong.

    More Stuff The ESFJ:

    • Are typically very down to earth people
    • In relationships, they will seek active involvement won’t be in the background
    • In relationships, they will quickly express appreciation…and want appreciation themselves
    • In relationships, will have difficulty taking criticism at times
    • In relationships, they are very tactful, usually, possessing wonderful communications skills
    • In relationships, have a tendency to make decisions for others without others input
    • Can be very security minded in relationships
    • Naturals for valuing and remembering birthdays, holidays, anniversaries, tradition
    • May rush to judgment rather than cooperatively considering a mates point of view
    • At times may be seen as controlling and/or dominating

    Under Stress The ESFJ:

    • May become highly emotional, weak and sappy
    • May “feel” attacked, take things personally and feel unappreciated
    • May have difficulty thinking clearly
    • Under extreme stress they may withdraw, feel hurt, trapped and alone, and see one huge concept as the problem
    • May withdraw with out of proportion explosions of emotion

If this type is you, wonderful, perhaps you now have a better understanding of yourself, and perhaps you can use that increased understanding in many positive ways.

If you see someone else as this type but not you, please pay attention to the differences between your personality and the ESFJ. Try to see that your way and this way are natural and just fine! Look for the positive differences, the strengths this type brings to your type. Celebrate that because it cannot be changed and can add wonderful diversity and truth to your life!!
