Personality Type 'Programs' You for Fun Activities!

Certain kinds of fun come naturally
to all of us. Did you know you are hard wired to prefer some recreational activities over others, some ways of having fun over others? Well you are by the instinctive personality traits and preferences you were imprinted with.

Knowledge of Myers-Briggs Personality Type can be used to help you develop a healthy balance between all activities of your life and having fun is one of them.

As you understand your natural preferences for having fun you will also be able to better identify how family members, colleagues, and others might prefer to have fun.

You may better understand when others don’t seem to desire the same or similar recreational activities and thereby reduce potential misunderstanding and conflicts.

In another section of this site we spoke of “dominant function” being that part of each personality that gets the most amount of conscience psychic energy…it is your favorite psychological thing to do!

We will divide the 16 Myers-Briggs types into 4 groups to make it easier to discover your preferred fun, recreational pursuits. Everyone is dominant in either “Sensing”, “Intuition”, “Feeling” or “Thinking”.

Dominant Sensing Types May Naturally Find Fun In: (ISTJ, ISFJ, ESTP, ESFP)

  • Various team sports such as baseball, volleyball, basketball, football, etc over more individual sports such as track, tennis, golf, etc.
  • Reading non-fiction over fiction; dominant sensors enjoy stories that are true, adventurous, biography over science-fiction lets say or historical fiction, etc.
  • Domestic activities such as sewing, fashion design, interior design, cooking, gardening, etc.
  • Most things mechanical, gadgets, technical toys, things with “components”.
  • Usually enjoy and find leisure taking things apart and rebuilding or putting them back together again.
  • May see a leisure activity as accomplishing something concrete.

Dominant Intuitive Types May Naturally Find Fun In: (INFJ, INTJ, ENFP, ENTP)

  • May enjoy more individual pursuits, such as acting, painting, tennis, chess…other imaginative activities.
  • Reading fiction over non-fiction; dominant intuits enjoy fantasy, science-fiction, historical fiction more than others.
  • May watch more TV and/movies than some especially if they are imaginative, conceptual in nature.
  • May enjoy “cerebral” type games, more math, and scientific oriented activities.
  • May see a leisure activity as an escape more than getting something done in a “fun” way.

Dominant Thinking Types May Naturally Find Fun In: (INTP, ISTP, ESTJ, ENTJ)

  • Games of logic and strategy.
  • Find leisure in debate, tennis.
  • Any activity where they can gage their mastery of the activity…golf, running, shooting, weightlifting, etc.
  • Reading non-fiction and philosophy more than others.

Dominant Feeling Types May Naturally Find Fun In: (ISFP, INFP, ESFJ, ENFJ)

  • Reading romance novels…human interest works.
  • Keeping personal journals for leisure scrap books and engage in letter writing.
  • Finding leisure in forming and maintaining relationships.
  • Different social organizations to join.
  • Sports of all kinds with emphasis on non-competition sport environments.

There are naturally differences and overlaps among all the type preferences for recreational activities; but, you can use your personality preferences and personality traits to relax, have fun, identify fun activities that are more central to who you are.
