There are basically two schools of thought when you regard love, personality type and relationship compatibility and try to calculate love compatibility.

One is that the more “type alike” two people are the more compatible they will be.

In other words two people, who share the same personality type OR share 2-3 of the same functions at least, will much more naturally get along. There is research strongly supporting this claim.

Then there is also research strongly supporting the claim that the more opposite two personality types are the greater the ATTRACTION will be. The reality is probably some combination of the two. 16 Types

It is true that all 16 types can relate, mate, have wonderful relationships with all combinations of type.

It is also true that they will not experience the same amount of ease however as they relate with each other.

The research shows us that when two people are OPPOSITE on the Extraversion-Introversion dichotomy (the energy preference level) and or the Judging-Perceiving dichotomy (getting things done level) then opposites do seem to attract nicely, and for some long time!

However, the same research shows us that when two people are OPPOSITE on the Sensing-Intuition dichotomy (awareness level) and/or the Thinking-Feeling dichotomy (decision making level) then opposites DO NOT ATTRACT; indeed the going is much more difficult. Not impossible…just more naturally difficult.

The Sensing-Intuition preferences and the Thinking-Feeling preferences seem to be the “peas in a pod” reality if you will.

The more type alike two people are regarding how they see the world and make decisions about what they just saw, the better relationship compatibility and love is.
