The Myers Briggs Personality Indicator is the work of an American mother-daughter duo, Katherine Briggs and her daughter Isabel Briggs Myers. They were powerfully impacted by the psychological theories of the Swiss psychologist Carl Jung who published his ideas regarding personality type in 1921. Actually, Katherine had come to many of the same conclusions Carl Jung had reached although Katherine was not a psychologist. Together Katherine and Isabel worked tirelessly throughout the 1940s, 50s and 60s to develop the instrument that became the MBTI test. They interviewed countless thousands of high school and college students in the early days as they put together a question and personality item pool which was constantly refined and polished. In 1975 the publication of the Myers Briggs Type Indicator was transferred to Consulting Psychologists Press. In addition, the Center for the Application of Psychological Type was created as a research arm for the MBTI. Most Accurate
Since then the Myers Briggs Type Indicator has become the most trusted and used and relied upon instrument for determining a self personality profile of all time. Much of this popularity is due to the unsurpassed accuracy of the MBTI and a great deal of the popularity is due to what I call the many “aha now I understand!” sort of experiences that the Myers Briggs Test provides. What Does the Myers Briggs Personality Test Do?
The MBTI will accurately identify your instinctively preferred way of using your mind. Not taken the MBTI, or can't remember what type you are if you did?? Click here to Take the MBTI Test. Put another way, people are naturally different in some respects because of instinctively preferred behavioral choices. These choices or “preferences” determine how we use our minds. By the way, the word preference means that you “prefer” or LIKE SOMETHING BETTER. The word “preference” does not mean you always do something; preference is not a command performance! Right Handed or Left Handed
Personality preferences feel a lot like being right handed or left handed. You know which you are; so think of the things you like to do with your favorite hand and then envision what that would be like always using the other hand to do those favorite things. Personality preferences feel a lot like that. You could say that your self personality profile that the Myers Briggs Personality Test identifies is showing you your psychologically favorite and less favorite things to do, ways to think, behaviors to choose, etc. The preferences for behaviors and mind use concern the way people prefer to PERCEIVE things and the way they make JUDGMENTS. The Myers Briggs Personality Test most accurately identifies these behaviors. Perceiving means how people naturally become informed of what is going on around them. Perceiving means how we like to take in information and become aware of people, places, things, ideas, happenings, by using SENSING or INTUITION behaviors. Judging involves the process of deciding or concluding upon, making a decision about, what you have just perceived or become aware of. You will reason and make a decision using THINKING and FEELING behaviors regarding what you just became aware of by using your SENSING or INTUITION!! Now when Perceiving and Judging are combined you are covering a huge part of how people think and the way people think will govern how we behave. Your perception governs what you see and then you judge or decide about what you just saw. These two realities make up the core of your self personality profile.
