College Life INFJ a Very Powerful Fit!
The conceptual creativity which can be the hallmark of the INFJ should finda natural expression for itself in college. What To Study
Choosing a college major by the INFJ will usually be done with careful forethought(at times too much forethought!) and they will bring a "inner" vision to the choosingof a future study area. They will typically gravitate to college majors such as: - College Professor
- Counseling and/or Psychology
- Ministry
- Science
- Research
- Training and Development
Studying and Learning Styles
It varies but so much of higher education is "conceptual" in nature and this iswhere and why INFJs can shine in college. The INFJ learning style is: - Naturally focused on theory, concepts and underlying meaning.
- Independent and willing to challenge authorities when a value is threatened.
- Optimized when studying alone, with a quiet environment to study in.
- Prefer to express creative ideas in writing first.
- Needing of instructors who arouse enthusiasm for learning.
- Motivated by the abstract; and by passion.
When reading, writing and studying they: - Prefer quiet for study and concentration.
- Do well academically because of good time management and organization.
- Need to revise final drafts by fitting original ideas to the professor's requirements.
- Write at their best when freely expressing their strong convictions.
- Need to work against seeing the "whole" before writing anything!
Fun and Stress
All "introverts" will have to work harder at having fun with others but they certainly cando that! As INFJs approach fun they tend to: Join campus groups where they can put their ideals into practice or to service. Report that they do not date as much as some other types. Usually want work to be done before having fun. Have roommates who find them quiet, steady friends with unique interests who will follow through on their commitments. Possible stressor's for the INFJ: - May have great difficulty with roommate negativity and discord.
- They may ignore information that might challenge what they believe because of single-minded devotion to a cause.
- May have difficulty seeing why others aren't as invested in their ideals.
- May have difficulty with unexpressed expectations that they have of others.
- Will have difficulty with environments/courses that are too practical, detailed, etc.
- Their self-expectations may be way too high.
- May have difficulty following instructions because of individualism.
The INFJ can cope with stress by: - Trusting in their inner vision or values.
- Learn to compromise to meet professor's expectations.
- Making their expectations known to others.
- Learning to seek and give criticism more often.
- Setting more realistic goals and expectations for their self.
Because INFJs are "dominate" intuitive's they can find a almost seamless union with collegelife which is, in the classroom at least, highly conceptual (intuitive). They can bring a inner vision and passion to certain favored subjects/activities they may have but may struggle at times with roommates who produce ongoing conflict too much negative emotion.
