ISTJ Stress is Uncharacteristically Emotional!
"ISTJ" Introverted with Sensing, Thinking and Judging
Identify the Stressor's
The stressor's for ISTJs are combinations of too much opposites.
Too much:
- Extraversion (excess people contact)
- Intuition (excess conceptualizing/idealism)
- Feeling (excess "feeling" decision making)
- Perceiving (excess spontaneity/uncertainty)
ISTJ's can mangage the stress by identifying those events causing each opposite reality and changing it
in someway, form or fashion. Some times nothing can really be changed but just identifying the sources
of stress can help manage stress....know who the enemy is!
In The Grip
The most extreme stress behavior for the ISTJ will be typified by catasrophizing, demonstrating
impulsive and spontaneous behavior and struggling with the detailed reality of the moment.
The Inferior psychological function of the ISTJ (Intuition) has been activated in the most negative
of circumstances and is trying to solve the crisis. Of course, the prospects of inferior and extraverted
Intuition working here are practically nil!
The ISTJ may be experienced at this point by others as:
- Intensely angry
- Rigid in what they are doing
- Very outwardly critical
- Unbelievably pessimistic and negative in a global way
- Embrace fear of the future
Getting Back On Track
In order for the ISTJ to regain composure three things will need to happen.
First, they may have to exhaust themselves in this Grip experience.
Secondly, please take them seriously. What they are "feeling" must be validated
try to understand, they don't need criticism or to be told that every thing will turn '
out ok!
Thirdly, what they normally excel in, detail identification and mastery, is not working
now so help them with the details.
In Summary
Understanding the ISTJ Myers Briggs personality type and how the type dynamics work
is the beginning of ISTJ stress management understanding.
Identifying the potential stressor in the circumstances is also critical. This may range
from circumstances causing stress management in the workplace to stress management efforts
within interpersonal relationships.
Find the opposite situations, too much of that are strong stressor's. Understand the Grip
reaction and know that this is the extreme situational reaction.
Know that too much Grip is very un-healthy in every respect! Use the Grip situation to
identify what must be changed. Too much Grip experience can put you in an early grave and that is a
hard scientific fact!
