Best Personality Books and Reviews

On this page we will be reviewing the best personality books out there. Well, actually it will be more like the best personality books I can get my hands on. There are so many I can't get to them all; but I will give you my best review and opinion of the works that follow.

Most will probably be related to the Myers-Briggs Personality Indicator and how to use the information from it to improve you life. However, I will reserve the right to look at other personality approaches as well. Actually that could be great fun.

I also will be giving you my very honest opinion. If I don't like the work I'll say so and then you can make up your mind about what I said.

These reviews are free. If you want to buy these books, and in some cases, I hope you will. You can do a Google search and find the most favorable way to do that. I'm not selling books on this site, just giving out the best free information on Myers-Briggs personality knowledge that I can. So with that, let's get started.

Communication: Key to Your Marriage: A Practical Guide to Creating a Happy, Fulfilling Relationship by H. Norman Wright
Communication: Key to Your Marriage. by H. Norman Wright

Since communication is one of the core uses of the knowledge of personality type this book has been key for me. Mr. Wright covers allot of ground in the book. He begins by addressing the "expectations" most folks bring to marriage and how that can really throw you for a loop! He covers many subjects and does go into the Myers-Briggs and ends up talking about the root causes of anger and ends with a discussion on how to resolve conflict...with allot in between! This is one of the best reads I've ever done on the application of personality. If you get it, I think you'll love it, I did!

The Five Love Languages. by Gary Chapman, Published by Northfield Publishing, Chicago, IL.

The Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman

Published by Northfield Publishing, Chicago, IL.

Now this in NOT a Myers-Briggs book; but the material is absolutely "spot-on"! In fact it is easy to take the 16 Myers-Briggs personality types and translate or fit them into the five love languages Chapman writes about. For example my type, INFJ, usually embraces the love language of "Words of Affirmation" and "Physical Touch". While my wife, ISTJ, is "Acts of Service" all the way. I am saying you will find that pretty standard....I may write a page on the site about how this directly translates for each of the 16 types, but for now this is a great book and if you have not read it you should.

Intimacy and Type. by Jane Hardy Jones, Ed.D & Ruth G. Sherman, Ph.D.

Intimacy and Type. by Jane Hardy Jones, Ed.D and Ruth G. Sherman,Ph.D.

Published by Center for Applications of Psychological Type, Inc., Gainesville, FL.

Intimacy and Type is definitely a Myers-Briggs book and is published by CAPT, which is where I was trained by the way. At any rate this book takes the 16 types and gives ways each type can co-exist, if you will, with each of the other types! A very, very critical idea and skill! Good book!

Please Understand Me. by David Keirsey
Please Understand Me. by David Keirsey
Published by Prometheus Nemesis Books
Del Mar, CA

Great read! Although this is not "technically" a Myers-Briggs book David Keirsey is a world renowned expert on "temperaments" and uses the Myers-Briggs 16 types in his work....so it kind-of-sorta-is....if you will. You'll learn what is meant by a "temperament" group and Keirsey gives handy dandy names to each type and the temperaments within them. For instance all the "NF" or Intuitive Feelers are "Idealists" to Keirsey...and it is true. As I said a great book and one of the personality type classics s!

Type Talk At Work: How 16 Types Determine Your Success on the Job.
Type Talk At Work: How the 16 Types Determine Your Success on the Job.
By: Otto Kroeger with Janet M. Thuesen and Hile Rutledge
Published by: Dell Publishing, New York, NY

Everyone should be carrying this book around with them at work like it was the Bible or something! I mean this is one of thedefinitive works on how to use knowledge of personality type to help reverse job dissatisfaction. In this work they talk abouthow to use personality type regarding team building, leadership, problem solving, work conflict, time management, hiring/firing,sales, ethics, among others. Highly recommended!
